Security Week: Industry Reactions to XcodeGhost Malware: Feedback Friday

Bill Anderson of OptioLabs shares his reaction to XcodeGhost, a piece of malware designed to target Apple users, to Ed Kovacs of Security Week. Bill states that “this could have happened before and we might not know about it. The incident shows that clever malware can make it through Apple’s current vetting system if it is delivered by a trustworthy app. A particularly clever group of hackers (or an intelligence agency) could have introduced subtle malware to other applications by subverting other development tools. How would the average developer know if his toolset is trustworthy or modified? This is an aspect of software development that deserves further consideration”.
